Okay I’ll admit it. I was skeptical about this movie. Finally, a friend of mine, Paula, raved about it. She convinced me to see it but alas the moving madness had begun. So it had to wait. Then no streaming of Netflix. Again waiting until we got the DVD to Tennessee then on Red Box rental we finally got to see it. Yes, it was worth the wait. (more…)
I survived the great Samsung Galaxy 7 Note recall return venture. It took three hours at my local store to do it but I did. I now have a Samsung Galaxy Active 7. It’s rugged for all that outdoorsy stuff I do like get poison oak without having a clue how I did it from paved areas. The fun news is that I get to do it all again when the Note 7s are back on the market, you know when I want to kill half a day in my local cell phone provider’s store.
Imagine one day you are going about your business in a city crossing a street you’ve crossed many times before but here in the middle of the crosswalk that’s so familiar you pay no attention to it something catches your eye. It’s a tile, a tile that’s had letters cut from it and those letters replaced with ones cut from another color tile. You stop to read the message.

You walk on puzzling over just what that means. Now that message becomes part of your daily routine. You find a few more over the following years as you move about your city. Then you take a trip to a few other cities and are surprised to find similar tiles there. Then when on vacation in Chile dang if you don’t see one there. What is this? This is the phenomena known as Toynbee Tiles.
Looking back it looks as if I gave him a Glasgow-Heath-Ledger-Joker-Smile – I didn’t mean too. But it’s Aaron at 2 in 1995 as a Scarecrow all happy after a very successful haul of candy trick or treating.
I’ve always wished Latin had been taught in my middle school and high school. Many of our words are based upon Latin. I’ve studied Latin and can often tease out meanings from seeing the Latin root. So when writing a fantasy world with spies I went looking in Latin for spies. My thoughts were I’d base the word or name of the spy network on the Latin root. When I was a kid in the mid-70s I had a Guinness Book of World Records. It was a small but think paperback of fine print and few pictures. One of the pictures was of a woman in black walking away seen at a distance. It was made in the early 1900s and was associated with the stingiest woman entry for a Hetty Green. She was said to have a fortune but her son lost his leg after she tried to sneak him in to a free clinic to be found out and refused. That she kept her office cold and ate leftover oatmeal for lunch. It certainly sounded like she deserved the Stingiest Woman In the World Record. (more…)
As you know our last kitty died while we were on our cruise in February. I do not do well without a kitty. Plans were to get a kitten when the spring kitten season came. Then the move developed and we decided it wasn’t fair to get a kitten and put them right into a big move like that. So revised plans were to get one once we got into our house in Tennessee.
Then we came to be shown around the property and how to tend the sprinkler system, hot tub, security system, and what not by the previous owners. The wife commented that where they were going they couldn’t take their cat. He was just over a year old and she was going to place an ad in the paper to give him away. Well, you know what I said. “We’ll take him!” So Jack the cat conveyed with the house to us.
He was a garage kitty when we got him but he’s now a house cat. He is silly kittenish and flops rather than lies down. For this Mike calls him FIFA Jack because he’s as good at falling to fake a foul as any pro He’s playful and loving. We were told he didn’t like being held but he climbs into my lap and cries to be picked up.
At first he was scared of Molly, she’s a big dog compared to the little Shiz-tu he knew. However they made friends and now I live with two romping children. They tag one another then play chase around the kitchen, living room, bedroom, bath loop. He likes to get behind a door and jump out at Molly who doggie laughs then chases him to nose tag him and it starts again.
He’s very into jingle ball and was disappointed to see that it wasn’t an Olympic sport. He’s now made it a mission between eating, napping, and playing to see that feline jingle ball is taken seriously as a 3am sport to be played on hardwood floors near sleeping humans.
Jack is a very welcome addition to our family. I’ll tell you more as we get to know one another and he matures.
A stranger showed up in Silgo, Ireland on 12 June 2009. He was nice enough older man that kept to himself. He wandered the town, mailed some things, had his meals, snuck cigarettes in the hall instead of going outside, and went to the beach. Nothing really odd about that until he checked out with less luggage than he had checked in with and was found dead on the beach he’d visited the next morning. Then it turns out he’d given a fake name and address to the hotel. Who was the man that said he was Peter Bergmann? The police turned to CCTV to find him on the footage. What they saw raised more questions than it answered.
Welcome to pre-K for Aaron in 1995. He was a scarecrow and signed up to bring the Halloween cake for his daycare class. Back then he went to Milestone EduCare in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I was more Martha Stewart-y back then so instead of doing what a sane mother with a job would do – order one from the bakery I made it. I have to say to this day I am proud of how the “Monster ARGGGHH!!” (make claw like hands beside your face while saying it) cake turned out. I do not want to know what it looked like when 8 3 yr olds and 2 teachers were finished. I like to remember it as it was. I’m sure no one else remembers, not even “Monster ARGGGHH!!” Aaron but I remember it fondly as my BOO! Cake.
