  • Throwback Thursday – Mike early 70’s

    Christmas Mike early 70s

We are traveling back to the early 70’s. To keep with the Throwback feel I didn’t process this picture to clear it up. Nope faded memories of Mike on Christmas. Oh I so remember so many boys with that haircut and that type of striped shirt. So what were you doing in the early 70’s? Hoping for a cool present?

  • Throwback Thursday – First Christmas

    Eklund, Aaron - 1st Christmas 1993

Ahh those were the days when I could shop for him while he rode in the same cart. When paper to tear was an AWESOME gift. He looks to be concentrating so… Yes this was my son Aaron’s first Christmas.

Bright, Mary Louise with poor Santa

Honestly this is one of the most pathetic pictures of me with Santa. I think this Santa looks like Nicholas Cage… Mike doesn’t. Do you? Any way we both agree he’s a skinny pathetic Santa. I’m guessing this was about 1973. I’m guessing mom didn’t have a comb with her that day which explains my hair.

Thanksgiving 2012 Men In The Kitchen
Thanksgiving 2012 Men In The Kitchen

Now back in the day women made the meal and men ate the meal with them. Well welcome to the 21st century where everyone has a job in the kitchen when it comes to feast time. Here are my guys helping out in 2012. Yes the meal was delicious. Aaron makes mashed potatoes. Mike does the relish tray and turkey carving/picking. Both do the various veggie and fruit chopping needed for dressing. Hope you are having a great Thanksgiving. I promise there will be a table picture of our feast this year and maybe more kitchen shots of these good-looking men.

  • Throwback Thursday – Thanksgiving Me

    Thanksgiving me 1969

This is me at my maternal grandparent’s house in Laurens, South Carolina. I would guess this to be about 1969. It is a tradition in my family to make a picture of the table laden with the feast. So here I am not having done any of the work but going to do my best share of the eating. Enjoy!

  • Throwback Thursdays – Eklund Thanksgiving

    Thanksgiving 1997

For years our Thanksgivings at Mike’s parent’s house included his maternal grandparents the McAllisters. They were Michigan snowbirds that joined the great grey migration to Florida every year. On their way down they’d stop and have Thanksgiving at Donna’s. So here we are around the table one Thanksgiving in the late 90s. I’m not sure why we all look so sunburned maybe because the house was kept so hot to keep the snowbirds comfortable.

  • Throwback Thursday – My Little Pilgrim

    Eklund Aaron 2nd grade 1999

First off let me say I texted my son and sent him the picture asking his permission to publish it. He was fine with that. So here’s my son Aaron when he was in second grade. Yes he’d made this himself at school and wore it to our Thanksgiving dinner. Sadly he did not make one for each of us. **SIGH** Maybe this year.

    Mike Hobo 1971

Okay that’s not me, it’s Mike. Yes I got his permission before publishing the lipsticked baby’s got back Hobo Mike of 1971. I can’t explain this. I really don’t know what to say beyond – yes, yes I am still very glad I married the man. He’s very nice to let me post this for Throwback Thursday.

Back to me again. That’s me as a fairy I think, I’m not actually sure. That’s recycling my ballet costume adding a pretty mask and foil covered baton. Yes I’d guess it’s been a bit since I’d worn it given how short it is there… This is 1971. I remember I always wanted a custom made costume for Halloween. I don’t know what I thought the costumes I got for ballet and tap were for goodness sake! Any way I do remember when it was a cold Halloween I hated having to ruin my costume with a coat. Apparently this was a warm Halloween judging by those legs!

Aaron as a Bullfighter Mike as the Bull 1999

Okay this isn’t the best photo but the only one I could find that showed Mike’s surprise costume that year. Below the cut you’ll see Aaron’s bull fighter better. He was out posing for me when Mike came out in his bull one to take Aaron house to house. Yes if you look close it’s a shower curtain ring in his nose there and there are aluminum foil horns on the hat. Aaron was telling Mike to wait in the shadows that year. LOL! Again click below to see Aaron’s costume as well as his first one and one as a paleontologist the next year. (more…)
