I’m very picky about comedies but I do like a ‘fish out of water’ comedy. You know the type someone is in a situation they are unfamiliar with but after some funny errors they make friends get into the groove then by their adapting they change the new place for the better and everyone wins. Yay. That is that I thought The Intern was going to be.
Okay I’ll admit it. I was skeptical about this movie. Finally, a friend of mine, Paula, raved about it. She convinced me to see it but alas the moving madness had begun. So it had to wait. Then no streaming of Netflix. Again waiting until we got the DVD to Tennessee then on Red Box rental we finally got to see it. Yes, it was worth the wait. (more…)
When we were apartment camping without much internet or TV reception we went to the movies every weekend. We saw several movies that normally I would have passed until they were on TV. But given the situation we paid the price to get out, sit in chairs other than camping ones, see something other than DVDs and enjoy ourselves. Money Monster was one of those movies.
This summer is yet another summer of sequels and remakes. Now don’t get me wrong, I like many a fangirl look forward to the next episode in some movie sequels. But honestly most would have stood better if left as the awesome first movie they were. As for remakes, I’m at the age now where I’m seeing my childhood shows and movies redone casting the next generation, except Spiderman that gets rebooted what every other year? While some remakes are great fun others pale in comparison. So here’s my take on three from this summer.

Since I gave up comic books for other things, like space in my home, I get my fix in comic book movies. I didn’t see Avengers 2, aka Ultron, in theaters because of all the moaning about how badly it dissed Hawkeye. I did see it in February on the cruise. Deadpool I was anxious to see but came out in a busy time in my life so saw it via DVD. This summer with little to do when camping in an apartment and waiting on a house to move into we went to movies regularly – saw Civil War and Apocalypse in a theater. Now I know those are two studios but for a comic book lover like me it’s one publisher Marvel. Thus I’ll give my short thoughts on each in one post about Marvel’s Movies. Warning SPOILERS ahead if you don’t want them for a particular movie skip to the next. I feel comfortable doing spoilers because it has been sometime since the movies were released and they were successes. Thus I feel those who care passionately about the story lines have already been exposed to the plots. (more…)
One cold weekend day Mike and I made it to a showing of Leo DiCaprio’s latest Oscar attempt The Revenant. The story is an embellished telling of the Hugh Glass story. They gave him a son and wife that in history didn’t exist. Still the core of the story is real – Hugh was attacked by a bear (no not raped nor was Leo) buried for dead and came after the men that left him. It happened in Spring/Summer not Winter. But oh well, Hollywood has to up the stakes and pull the heartstrings, I get getting inspired by a true story and building upon it. Now to the movie itself. Do I think Leo pinned his Oscar here? I just watched this documentary about a tragic incident that had been on the edge of my awareness. I was traveling when the accident occurred saw it on a monitor with news while waiting at an airport gate. I like so many thought ‘oh so horrible’ and went on with my life. You know tragedy like that changes lives but we never really see how. Then I watched this. (more…)
I’ve admitted it here before I’m a crime documentary junkie. I also adore Hollywood heist movies. When I found this documentary on Netflix little did I know I found something that mixed the best of both.
Back in September we discovered this movie on Netflix. Mike started it, rewound it, and called me in to watch it. I’m glad he did. This sci-fi (or is it syfy or science fiction) movie with the tension of the first Alien combined with questions about humanity similar to those in 2001. (more…)
Yes we are hammering away at our recorded movie backlog. I mean really what else are you going to do on a cold March evening? Looking for something light, we chose RIPD. It fit the bill for light entertainment.
