I have always loved my feline family members. Here are two sisters I had growing up. This is the mid 1970s. The one with extended paw and half yellow face is Chatterbox there with her in the bike basket is Miss Kitty. Chatterbox had a habit of always talking to herself in chirping meows thus the name. Mom named Miss Kitty after the Miss Kitty of Gunsmoke. Though our Miss Kitty had a litter and became Ms. Kitty.

When I see a front gap between teeth I think of David Letterman and Lauren Hutton. Showing my age aren’t I? But did you know that gap has a name? It’s diastema.
In general that means a gap in teeth. If you are speaking in zoological terms it is the space that occurs between types of teeth say incisors and grinding teeth. BUT when you are referring to humans it means that gap… you know that one in the front there… that’s a diastema.
Remember the Avenger movie that was a Captain America movie named Civil War? Yeah, it was good but in that the new Sony Spiderman made an appearance in the Disney Avengers. That was exciting but more so was he was spot on as the wisecracking teenager Spidy. So after seeing Peter Parker in detention watching a video featuring Captain America whom he just fought… Mike was sold. I was willing to try again. There had been enough time after the terrible Spiderman 3 starring Toby McGuire. That movie actually burned me so bad I skipped all the Spiderman movies since. BUT I have to say this one was spot on.

Over the 4th of July weekend we went to North Chicago and stayed in the Navy Lodge at the Great Lakes Naval Base to visit our son Aaron and his fiancee Sara. Aaron home at their apartment in Kenosha after a lay off at the civilian job and then injury during his Army National Guard drill weekend. So he was free to hang with us and Sara was free Sunday for a tour and Monday for dinner. (more…)
When it comes to mysteries the Elisa Lam case is an unique one. She was a Canadian on her own touring the United States with her own plan. She was young and out to see the world. Then she disappeared. Then she was found in a shocking manner that made world news. How did she end up in the water tanks that serviced the Cecil Hotel in Los Angles? Was it murder or suicide? Either one was it intentional or accidental? What was Elisa doing in that eerie elevator video hours before her death? Was there a cover up or just shoddily run security system? These are topics that are still discussed today among mystery aficionados. What happened to Elisa Lam?
We are a pet family. The house isn’t complete without a cat and dog in it. It just seems like they make it a home. Join me in about 1975 at the Eklund house. This was my husband’s dog growing up. Her name was Lady Snowy Tundra. I never knew her but I feel I did from hearing Mike talk of her. I have tales of my various pets but he had only her. His tales are all Tundra. She’s still special to him as many are to me. Pet just make life better in ways people never can.

It’s not a secret to long time followers that I’m a big fan of Wolverine. Just look back at my comic comments tag and you’ll find a lot of Wolverine. While the movies have been fun up to now I’ve not felt he has gotten the movie he deserved for being one the strongest franchise characters for Marvel. That ended this March. Sadly the last movie with Hugh Jackman as Logan did them both justice. (more…)
Again a long lapse and I apologize. Stomach flu followed by a gut infection (no more need be said) knocked me down low. Just as I recovered it was time for the book sale at the local library. I worked that and have volunteered to help sell vintage books and leisure reading lots of used books for them on E-Bay. I will let you know when it goes active and encourage you to help our tiny library grow while getting good deals on reading materials and vintage books.
So while doing research on vintage books to get a price, this photo fell from the pages of one of them. If you look on the right the man there is wearing shorts too big for him and has a definite tan line there . Don’t worry though his trucks are drying in the foreground. Looking at it we guessed it to be a Navy swim call about WWII.
Finding it made me smile so I share a happy moment during a war.
Remember the interesting postcard from a spurned admirer? The one to Mattie Longmire? Well I found a follow up one that seems by the writing to be from the same admirer. This one is from June 1908 in Lu___, Tennessee. I couldn’t read the month on the other so I can’t tell you which comes first. Again it’s hard to read the writer’s message, partly due to age, partly due to penmanship, partly due to cramming so much in there. This one gets very creepy in a crazy stalker kind of way. I’m not sure if that’s my modern woman mind alarms. I’m thinking this after the ship card because he seems to say it was the 28th. I’ll do my best. So shall we continue the story of Mattie and her suitor? As always if you can improve on my attempt at transcribing please let me know. The comments are open below.

Well the lost letter came today to OGR I this to be a fool for I not the rich(?) man as he go__ ____ and was ___ not the 28th
So why write to a gal about killing flies then go back and write in by by you? Same for the ha ha after the comment about the dogs on the front. It seems Mattie wrote a letter back. It appears she claimed it was a misunderstanding about dates. However our writer seems to think it’s the money the other many has. Oh and he had his dates right…. and is a good fly killer.
