    Liberty Cemetery in Salem, Wisconsin

    Salem Wisconsin

Mike has been helping me keep an eye out for photo opportunities locally. He knows I must feed the blog pictures and subject matter daily Monday through Friday. One thing he cut out of the paper and pinned to the fridge was a series of history walks in Salem, Wisconsin. Perfect for me!

The only problem was it started at 5pm each day and Mike gets off work at 5pm. These feed the blog things are stuff we do together. With effort on his part we made it to the final one – the history walk in Liberty Cemetery.

Salem is a small town just west of Kenosha City (where I live) but still in Kenosha county. It’s getting out in farm land territory back in the days when Kenosha was founded and much of it is still villages and farms to this day.

We had missed the previous three nights history walks. So we didn’t know the full stories of some of the people the tour guide pointed out. Also we aren’t from the area so names of prominent families meant nothing to us. Nor did her explaining that Mr. So and Sos farm from the early 1900s took was is now the Jones, Smith, and Brown farms today. Still we did learn a few things and I’ll share those with you.

    Liberty Cemetery Salem, WI

Mike and I knew that Kenosha was originally called Southport. It was founded by a group from Utica New York who decided they needed a port on Lake Michigan. That’s all we knew. We’d pondered why a group in Utica thought they needed to send families here to make a port. We’d lived in Ballston Spa and I’d worked in Schenectady New York. So we knew where Utica was and that it didn’t even have a port on Ontario the closest Great Lake. What possessed them to think they needed to start one all the way over here on Lake Michigan?

Capt Tuttle’s story held our answer. It appears in the mid 1800s in Utica they still followed the tradition of the first son inherits the full farm. The second and later sons were just out of luck. So Utica wanted to offer an outlet to these non-inheriting sons and their families. This was the beginning of the lumber boom here in Wisconsin. The thought was to form a company to send these families west to settled there and send first wood then later produce to fuel the growth in the eastern seaboard. Forward thinking really, as the small New England farms were going and the big cities of New York, Boston, and Philadelphia were booming.

Utica formed a company for this venture along the lines of the West Indies Company that helped expand into the Carribean but this was to expand to the western shore of Lake Michigan. That’s where Capt. Tuttle comes in, he was hired as part of this company. He owned a large sailing vessel and was the mode of transportation from an Lake Ontario port to the new Southport on the west side of Lake Michigan. Passengers purchased fare to transport them to Southport, put them up there for a few weeks then they were to go west and claim land. Capt Tuttle retired to Kenosha (then Southport) a very wealthy man and knew most of the families in the area as he’d helped them settle there.

You notice these tree style markers in many cemeteries around here. I always wondered was it a fad at the turn of the century in this area? Did it mark say founders who cleared the land for farming? What was the significance of such a marker. It was for members of the Modern Woodman Fraternal Order. Their footings even were made to look like logs. Sorry these photos are off but night was falling and I had to really adjust to get enough light for the image. Apparently I didn’t hold still enough.

    Liberty Cemetery Salem, WI

The Montgomery family claim to fame was a connection to Mary Todd Lincoln. One of the Montgomery women was a private nurse to Mrs. Lincoln for a time. I found that interesting and wish I’d gotten the name of the woman who was the nurse. Maybe next time I’ll catch that.

I found this next marker interesting. See the stone there behind the flamingo. Those flamingo markers were used by the tour guide to mark the graves she was talking about. She stopped to tell us about this stone.

    Liberty Cemetery Salem, WI

It’s a natural stone from the Hollister family farm. They were the only family to haul a natural stone from their farm to mark their family plot. Here’s a picture of the other side.

    Liberty Cemetery Salem, WI

As you can see it is carved. I know it is simple but I think it is lovely. I actually like it better than some of the fancy ornate markers of other family plots. This one came from their home and is elegant in the simplicity of it.

    Liberty Cemetery Salem, WI

I liked this stone. Farmer Brown’s is a large produce farm in the area. Right now it’s their big cabbage and pumpkin season. Once when I was at my parents I noticed the pumpkins for sale in their local store had come from Farmer Brown’s in Kenosha Wisconsin. This marker did something a tombstone rarely does – it made me smile. I thought of happy farmer with happy produce. I thought of Aaron as a baby when I’d read the children’s book Farmer Brown. “The cows are hungry but where is…” and he’d shout at the top of his lungs “FARMER BROWN!” I liked it even though I didn’t know the man or his family. I instantly had warm feelings for them. However, the tour guide did say some Brown family members think it is too cartoony and want it changed to something more respectable. To me what’s more respectable than being remembered with a smile and good thoughts?

That’s our little tour of the small “old” cemetery in Kenosha. I put old in quotation markers because to me this is such a new area. I mean Wisconsin was only made a state in 1848. So the “old” grave here were after that. I was raised in a church that was over 200 years old. I lived in Charleston South Carolina where the OLD homes were built in the late 1600s. My grandfather was born in 1899 so I can name my line back to 1848 from memory! This is a young place still establishing itself. Still I loved learning about the area, seeing the history and hearing the tales of those who lived here before me. Except unlike them I intend to die somewhere warm preferably on a beach with pineapple dink in my hand watching a hunky pool boy.

Comic Comments – Deadpool Can Die

Deadpool in a tutu title Deadpool vs Black Swan

When we left Deadpool he was ‘cured’ of his healing factor and handsome again. Now he’s honing his skills as he got soft healing from injuries. BUT now that he is killable his enemies would like to oblige. Thus starts this three issue arc entitled Blacklisted.

First the legal stuff: All images are the property of their owners I reproduce them here under the Fair Use Doctrine of the copyright law for commentary and critique. No more than three pages total from any one issue is reproduced.

Black Tom Cassidy whacks Deadpool back toward the reader with a SO-WACK!

This story has all of Deadpool’s enemies who have Black in their name going after him.  Black Box a villain that can control electronics uses social media to notify the villain world that our beloved Merc with a Mouth can die. The hi-jinx ensue from that.

This was what I look for in a Deadpool comic – comic relief poking fun at the superhero/supervillain genre while loving it too.  Deadpool is crazy and clueless but talented fighter.  His villains are bumbling and would be dangerous if only they could get it together.  Inter cut with all of this is the constant inner dialogue of Deadpool himself the sane and the insane.  Then add his 1980s action movie quips based on current pop culture and you have a fun read.

Deadpool looks at a tweet on his iPhone from Black Box stating that Deadpool is now killable.

No when I come to a Deadpool comic I don’t want to see character growth.  I don’t want a tight story.  I don’t want top shelf art.  I want DP to be himself, just like Roadrunner is always himself.  I want a romp of a story that’s amusing, fun, and has action.  I want art that’s a bit cartoony or comical at times.  I have to say this arc gave me all of that. I walked away from the story contented.  I got exactly what I came for and it was fun!

It’s been a Creepy October over at Google Plus

This photo from the Haines Museum in Waukegan IL. I made it when we toured the museum. Then for the theme of Creepy October I used Pixlr-O-Matic to add creepy effects.

It all started unintentionally on October 2nd but by the 9th it had become intentional.  Now I fully mean to make it to November 1st.  What am I talking about?  My posts on Google + about creepy stories based in truth.  That’s what!  I’ll warn you I’m a prolific poster on G+.  It’s where I go to share neat stuff I happen upon and where I go to make long rambling posts about the day. But in October I started adding a link to something creepy in honor of the pending holiday of Halloween.

If you’ve been reading for long you KNOW I love the odd, strange, bizarre, and creepy.  Yes sometimes I like to be among those things most like me. As I found myself posting more oddities I thought why not share some of my favorite strange stories each day.  I’d kick off telling about how I encountered the story or what I thought of the story then I’d link to a site that went more in depth.   Then like all things when you try to think of them – uh brain freeze.  Still I’ve made one a day since the idea hit me.  Last night at writer’s group I asked for refreshers on creepy stories particularly ones local.  Now I’ve got a list to keep me going some suggested by friend others ones that hit me as the suggestions were flying.

Here’s links to the Creepy October posts so far:

This gives you a peek at what I do on other streams.  You see Flickr often and my Twitter feed is on the lower right of my posts.  BUT you don’t get to see my G+ so much and thus I thought I’d share.  If you are over there find me and join in the fun!  If not enjoy these posts and the links they provide.  Also if you know of creepy tales based on truth – tell me I LOVE THEM!

    Until next time!

  • Why I Like Cemeteries

    Why I Like Cemeteries

    Salem Wisconsin

I’ve always liked cemeteries. No, not for the macabre reasons. I them for lots of reasons.

I like them because they are peaceful and scenic. If you want a place to go and be left to your thoughts, a cemetery is the place. Honestly even in a big city it’s quiet and people leave you alone. I’m not advocating being unsafe here like going to dangerous areas alone or at night in areas not well lit. But to sit quietly and think without shouts of people playing and such. A nice cemetery is the place to go.

    Liberty Cemetery Salem, WI

They are great places to learn photography due to textures, colors, distances, shapes, etc. You can learn a lot about composition of shots. You can learn about depth of field and focus. You can work on macro and distance compositions. You can gain different textures to see how it effects the shots and mood of the prints. It’s where I went to learn how to use a SLR before there was any automatic settings at all – everything was manual and I used film.

    Liberty Cemetery Salem, WI
Notice how the same shot changes in mood given the exposure type.

Cemeteries are an excellent place to learn history of an area. Without a guide you can wander a cemetery looking at death dates to pick up times of hardship in a community. You can see bad winters, epidemics, and armed conflicts. You can see about when the earliest people came to the area by the dates on the oldest graves. You can know a lot about cultural influences by the monuments and methods of burial. If you know your symbols of tombs and general symbology of the predominate culture (in the old US cemeteries that’s predominately European) you can learn about the people – their hopes, dreams, fears, and loyalties.

    Liberty Cemetery Salem, WI

If you are into genealogy you can learn a lot about families. Often on the tombs you’ll get marriages, children, and such. You can see how say this family merged with that one with several marriages over a century. You can also watch family names die out as a generation of only girls marry off to other names. Sometimes you can see immigration patters as places of birth or death are noted if they aren’t where the plot is located. You can find information about military service that will lead to military records and more finds.

This time of year there are many cemetery tours. Some offer tales of the spooky and some offer history, I enjoy both types. Recently Mike and I went on two of these tours that were history centered. The photos here came from those walks. I’ll be doing posts to tell what I learned on the walks but first I thought October was the perfect time share a post in the praise of cemeteries beyond a place to store the dead.

    Until next time!

  • The Black Cord Tangle Has ME!

The Black Cord Tangle Has ME!

tangle of black cords to chargers, headphones, and such

You might remember I’m on a mission to clear out my office to make room to think. Today I am tackling the built in drawers/credenza thingy in my office.  Already have a large bag of school supplies going to good will from Aaron’s various school projects through the years.  Found where the double AA batteries I kept buying went.  I swear I’d buy a box of like a bajillion and put them in battery drawer.  Two days later Mike would come and say nope no AAs in the drawer get some.  I’d go look and damned if they were gone so I’d buy more.  Clean out the drawer I found AAs hiding in every stack, nook, cranny, pencil box, etc.  Damn Bamfs!

    Entering my office
See the built in drawers – that’s where I’ve been working today.
If you click on the image and go to Flickr you can run your mouse over the image and see comments about that side of my office

Also because I was always the one quizzed on where is there an available headphone I purchased a box, labelled it head phones, put reusable ties in there for bundling up cords, and placed all headphones I found into this box on the shelf.  Seemed a good answer to me.  Well now we were down to one set of headphones.  I thought maybe for some bizarre reason Aaron took headphones to like stock the library’s audio room in Madison or at least every housemate.  Nooo, they’ve been tossed in the bottom drawer of the built-in drawers, cords unbound, all now in a big black spidery mess.

So my dear readers I am untangling changers from long gone phones, headphones that had a safe place to live but went slumming in a dangerous drawer and got tangled, with chargers of unknown origin.  That is where my day has been spent – in my drawers untangling things.  NOOoo! not those drawers get your mind out of the gutter – the drawers in the picture above with messes like the one featured.

I hope to return soon as I have lots of pictures and tours and stuff to tell you about from previous weekends and more coming up this weekend!

Until next time when I’m not so tangled up!

  • Comic Comments – Pull List Update

Comic Comments – Pull List Update

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a post updating on my pull list status.  Some comics have fallen by the wayside and others have come on the list.  Let’s look at what I am reading and why.

Adventures of Comic Con Girl #2
If you’ve been to Cons you’ll laugh and nod while reading.

The Adventures of Comic Con Girl had me laughing and nodding.  I’ve been to Cons and I know of what they are parodying.  This is a limited run and fun to laugh at ourselves.  I look forward to her adventures and know if this was on-going it’d drop but for the short limited it’s worth the read.

    Astonishing X-Men #53 Cover
This issue Logan IS the bomb.

Actually I’ll have to say it wasn’t Logan being a bomb that brought me back. What brought me back into this title was the previews of this issue. I loved how the team reacted and worked together after the Logan bomb went off. How they supported him and worked with each other to figure it out. I like that kind of X-Men story it’s too much inter fighting and not enough teamwork stories lately. So I went back to issue 50 just before Northstar’s wedding issue. Oh Logan blew at the wedding reception luckily he’d left the tent to walk off his ‘too many canapes’ that were upsetting his stomach.

You wouldn’t know it today since I’m heavily Marvel and Independents but DC and I go way back. So far back that my first word was Batman, not Mom, not Dad, but Batman. However I burned on DC decades ago. I’d tried about every five years or so to make a foray into their titles to be disappointed. However the free Earth One I got with the preview of the Batman story line hooked me. That was a title I liked with just Batman. I put my old buddy back on the list in hopes we can renew our friendship. Would be could to welcome him back with Wolverine and Bigby as a favored hero.

I liked Top Cow back in the day. Then with the buzz surrounding this and the kickstarter project I just gotta see the results. So this went on the pull list. I’ll let you know what I think.

    Dark Shadows Issue 8

I’m staying with this title out of nostalgia. I loved Dark Shadows back in the early 70s and this has kept the vibe. Unlike the Depp/Burton butchering of it, this held true to what I adored. So as long as they keep up with the original I’ll keep this on my pull list.

    Deadpool Issue 62

Deadpool‘s own title the best of the Merc with a Mouth. I enjoy him as the antidote for the overly serious superhero/villain stories. He’s staying on the pull list for the fun that he is.

    Fables issue 121

Fables is a staple of any pull list I ever create. when starting a pull list first on the list is Wolverine and second is Fables. Fables for consistence excellence in writing and art. I’ve never been let down by them in the years I’ve been reading.

    Fairest issue 7 cover

The latest and currently on-going spin off from Fables. Just like the main titles have never let me down – neither have the spin-off titles. So I’m on board.

    Fury Max Issue 06 cover

I have a handful of favorite characters in Marvel beyond Wolverine. One of the is Nick Fury. When this started set in the 60s with great cover art I was interested and haven’t been disappointed. I’ve heard the tale of Fury in WWII many times but Fury in the 60s-80s not so much and enjoy this take on him.

    Gambit Volume 5 Issue 3

Another favorite Marvel man of mine is Gambit. He’s had his own title many times – this is his 5th. I wouldn’t miss it. I’m waiting for the first arc to complete before reading but I have flipped through. I’m anxious to see what he’s like here as teacher by day – superhero thief by night.

    Ghostbusters Issue 13

I’m a fan of the Ghosbusters movies. The first DVD I ever bought was the first movie. So I had to try this comic, they had me at John Beluishi as Jake Blues was the guardian angel of Ackroyd’s Dr. Raymond Stanz sold me on the series.

    Hoax Hunters issue 4 cover

With the pleathra of paranormal “reality” shows and my penchant for loving those types of stories I had to try out this title. I’ve not been disappointed and it still sits on my pull-list in a well deserved spot.

Marvel Zombies Halloween Special 2012 cover

When Marvel Zombies were introduced I loved them as a novelty gag. I didn’t nor am I interested in a series based on them. BUT a Halloween special SURE! Zombies, Marvel, and Halloween pass the candy corn I’ve got reading to do. I’ll also be getting the Holidays special just like last year. Hopefully I’ll be more timely in reviewing it.

    Revival Issue 02 cover

Speaking of zombies – this centers around zombies in Wisconsin. I couldn’t resist. I’ve not read waiting on complete first arc before I dive in. I know it’s been highly praised and is in multiple reprints to meet demand.

    Saucer Country issue 7 cover

I read great reviews of this and jumped in at issue 6 which was sold as a good jumping on point. I liked it so much I went back and bought issues 1-5. I’m a fan of the odd and strange. I’ve been intrigued by UFO tales since there was a bulletin board outside my 3rd grade class about them back in 1974. This story is good at weaving in all the classic tales, theories, incidents, and such into the telling. I am enjoying it very much.

    Scam issue 1

Okay another type of story I enjoy the heist/scam story. Think Oceans 12, The Heist, The Sting, etc. Scam struck me as being in that vein. I put on the list and was surprised when I got issue 1 that it’s more than a double sized issue. I’ll stay on to see where it goes. So far so good.

    Think Tank issue 3 cover

Okay I jumped on this for two reasons 1) awesome reviews 10 out of 10 rating this I gotta see and 2) I’ve had to make similar decision (not so extreme) working in the rad waste industry as a consultant. I’ll be honest I’ve not read them yet again waiting for a full arc so I can judge. But if it lives up to a portion of what the reviewers claim – it’s awesome.

    Uncanny Avengers issue 1 cover

I got this to see where the over all Marvel universe goes post AvX interruptus. I hop on and off the New Avengers boat as the title and arcs grab me. I’m not sure how long I’ll stay on this Uncanny Avengers title but for now I’m willing to stay for at least the first arc.

    Uncanny X-Force issue 31 cover

I’m on and off the X-Force boat like I’ve been the Avenger boat. Anytime Cable isn’t there I’ll consider it. I don’t like Cable and avoid him unless Deadpool is there then I consider it REAL HARD. So here we have Wolverine and Deadpool my most favorite character and one of my other favorite Marvel men. So I’m on until this title ends at issue 35, which is 4 more issues.

    Walking Dead issue 102 cover

Okay I’ll admit it I hopped on this title after falling for the TV show it inspired. Yes they are two different stories with the same characters and kinda the same plot but not exactly. Both are excellent both get my time, neither am I dropping. Good writing will always keep me enthralled.

    Wolverine Volume 4 Issue 315

Remember back at Fables I said whenever I start a pull list… well this is the first title on it. My favorite character by far in the comics is James “Logan” Howlett. This title at times rocks and other times sucks (like the most recently completed arc sucked.) At times it’ll be so bad I’ll drop comics all together for years (AHEM Evolution arc I’m looking RIGHT AT YOU) but then something awesome will come and I’ll be back. So this time I put on my barn boots and waded through the last arc of Sabertooth Reborn and hoped for better. Isn’t that always how it is with the one you love they’ll drive you crazy.

Wolverine and the X-Men issue 17

This would be number 3 on my pull list. I love this title and hope, hope that they assign strong artists to it. I adore the growth of character it took to make Wolverine headmaster of his own school. Five years ago we’d thought it’d been Scott but no it’s Logan who inherits Xavier’s dream and carries on. It makes perfect sense in many ways. I love watching it be carried out. I hope this title is around for a VERY long time and sits there on any pull list I make with Wolverine and Fables.

The final title doesn’t have a preview cover released yet – Wolverine Max. It’s a Wolverine title so yeah it’s on my list. It’s another retelling of the Wolverine tale so I might like it if it’s limited like Wolverine Noir was or I might get bored and dump it. Been there done that don’t need another universe to follow… like recent First X-Men title for me. Only time will tell. Check in to my next pull list post and see if it stayed or read the Comic Comments I do and see what I think.

    Until next time!

  • I Ran Out of Room To Think

I Ran Out of Room To Think

To the right of the door my files
This is my credenza after the last clean out. If you click over to Flickr and put your mouse over the image there are boxes commenting on the wall collection. Oh I’ve gotten new curtains since then…

There wasn’t room to turn a thought over in my office any more. I mean physical room to do it. I’m one of these people who can’t think when clutter gets to be too much. I’m not sure what my threshold is but I reached it in my office. The clutter may or may not be where visitors can see it, generally it’s not. Clutter on shelves, in drawers, in closets behind closed containers takes up space for me to think. I can’t explain it but it does. It’s all part of the Mary Louise Cycle of cleaning. First I start out orderly and vow to keep it that way. Next I become productive. Then I over extend a bit and clutter builds on surfaces. This is followed by putting it away. This step is known as the CLEAN UP. The next part is away gets filled up. Then clutter comes out onto the surfaces. Then I deal with it on the surfaces but start being nagged by the away that is full of stuff I don’t need now and haven’t needed in some time. Then I get bogged down, I can’t think. I feel closed in by stuff – stuff put away in the crammed full away. I try to find something and the packed full away gets in the way of finding that thing. I remember back at the beginning of the cycle when I could put my hands on things quickly because I didn’t have to dig in the cleaned up stuff to get to the important thing. THEN comes the CLEAN OUT.

The CLEAN OUT is a big deal because everything gets emptied, sorted, evaluated, and categorized. There is the I need this stuff that goes back close to hand. Probably the type of thing was looking for when I got fed up with digging in the Cleaned up stuff clutter stuff. Then there is the donate stuff. It’s served its purpose for me. Time for it to go serve someone else. This is followed by the keep until I need again stuff. This is mostly resting writing projects, genealogy documentation, or reference books. I tend to let large projects rest a month or two before going back to start rewrite or edit. I find the distance helps me. Finally the tiniest category of all is the keep just because I like it stuff. This applies to a very few books, a few things Aaron gave me when he was a child, some art supplies, and a box of pens. My rule is this stuff cannot exceed one file box. Nope never. So far I’ve not had to toss anything because the file box isn’t full. I’m VERY discerning about what goes there and I’m a damn good packer.

Why do I tell you this? Because for the last two and half days I’ve been involved in a major CLEAN OUT of my office. In many ways I’m heading into a new chapter of life. Aaron is on his own. I’ve just finished a 2nd draft novel. I’m approaching surgery and recuperation time. It’s a transition period for me to the next thing. Not that I’m ending anything I’m just building on it, like one chapter of a novel builds on the next. Yet you know from reading chapters end signaling a change in the on-going story. Life is the same. I’m ending one chapter and moving to the next.

My office is my sanctuary. It’s my place to be me and from there build outward to the home, the house, the town, and the world. I want my sanctuary orderly as I venture into the next chapter. It helps me build if I’m not digging through clutter to find the important things. What’s important in tangible things change over time. That years worth of bank statements that was so important for my first mortgage approval doesn’t matter now. That book I enjoyed but is over can be passed on to someone else to enjoy. I want to be surrounded by what appeals to me now, what is useful to me now, what I need now, what’s important now. That can’t be EVERYTHING – decisions have to be made with what is taking up physical space and by doing that I also clear out mental space.

So far all the files are now in order. My desk top is clear. What is close to hand reflects current projects that are used at least weekly. The shelves here in my tiny office hold references I need for those current projects. Tomorrow I tackled the office supply drawers and the next day the office closet. So far I’ve three large grocery bags of books and a box of odds and ends for donation. I’ve taken out one large trash bag of stuff I don’t need any more. I’ve got some boxes of genealogy documentation that can be stored, the digital copies are at my fingertips. I’ve got a file box of a novel draft that needs to rest in the dark for 4-12 weeks. I’m sure a box office supplies we don’t need now that Aaron is out of school will be collected next for donation. Gosh knows what I’ll find in the closet – I’m hoping Narnia isn’t back there I’d have to have another cold draft I have to block this winter.  Besides I need to make room so I can run through another Mary Louise Cycle in this chapter.

    Until next time!

You can decide what you would like to do and please take in consideration that  there are no rules so you can follow this pattern or you can create another.

Debb passed on five questions and here are my answers :

    1) If you could change something what would you change?

Generally I’m about accepting things are they are and moving toward what you want given that.  But if I could change one thing I’d feel like I did in my 20s now so I can do all this stuff I want to do, have more experience to do, time to do, and money to do.  Ahh youth is wasted on the young… so say we older folk.

    2) If you could repeat an age, what age would it be?

None.  Really I’m in the best place now even with the aging thing.  I’ve worked hard to be where I am in all aspects of life.  I wouldn’t go back,  the only way is forward!

    3) What one thing really scares you?

The ones I love being hurt or coming to harm that I could prevent.  I love and adore those in my life and want it all to be sunshine, rainbows, and glitter for them.  I know I can’t control what the universe dishes out so the best I hope for it that I never cause them pain.

    4) What one dream have you not completed yet and do you think you will be able to complete it.

Wow.  I’d like to have a blockbuster novel.  I don’t know if I’ll get there but I’m working toward that.  In meantime I’m enjoying being creative and life along the way.

    5) If you could be someone else for the day, who would you be?

Uh, nobody.  One of the biggest jobs in life for me is being comfortable in my own skin.  I want to own what I do be it successful or a failure.  I don’t want to take on another’s issues even for a day.  I’m still working on me and being the best me I can be.

I’d just like to add that if you can’t laugh in life then just fill in the following blank and be thankful that’s not you.

“It could be worse, it could be ____________!”

I’ve never not been able to fill in the blank and then be thankful for where I am!

Until next time! (WHEW! Made it through this week!)

  • I’m Not In The Mood

    I’m Not In The Mood

I favor Angry Russell even though he went to Madison with Aaron.

After a few weeks of much activity I’m attempting to settle back down into a routine.  Class has started back with assignments due.  I’m moving on to another writing project while the previous one rests before it is proofed.  I could go on but let’s just say I finished one course of life and now my plate is full again with the next one.  Today I’m trying hard to wrap up the assignment get on with the post about the Liberty Graveyard Tour in Salem, Wisconsin as well as compose a few posts ahead.  I’ve got up coming surgery and want some in the bag to make posting regular through recovery.

All these plans involve using my computer.  Since they involve large memory stuff – photos, streaming class, etc.  They require the desktop not the netbook which is fine for the writing part.  However Java, iTunes, and Microsoft all had a meeting last night and agreed to harass me today with updates. I’ve had them shut me down to update.  I’ve had updates fail.  I’ve had the screen go black as they shout at me to restart or accept or stand on my head or whatever.

Now iTunes doesn’t work.  Microsoft keeps insisting it needs to update Microsoft Works which I don’t have.  I deleted it long ago since I have office.  Java is having conniptions and scream it needs to update when it does that’s another restart. I’m in a frustrating cycle of update me so I will no longer work for you.

I’m about to call Geek Squad on them all! Really I don’t have the hours right now to spend with Geek Squad.  Yes I have a subscription   Yes they’ve pull my ass out of the fire more than once (well worth the subscription price) but the shortest time I’ve ever had fixing things with them has been three and half hours.  I have an assignment due before then.  As it is right now I can limp along denying everyone updates, restarts, and acknowledging errors UNTIL I’m finished.

So consider this today’s post – one consumed by frustration and impending deadline with an uncooperative computer.  **glares over glasses**  HOWEVER, I will finish in time despite it ALL!

  • Where Did Time Go!

    Where Did Time Go!

Oops time slipped away today. With grocery shopping, class starting back, I ran out of time to do a post. I’ll be back tomorrow with a cemetery tour. Appropriate to set the Halloween mood and learn a bit of history about the Kenosha area. Until next time!
