The Wisconsin Dairy food stand’s paint job made me laugh.
Our day at the fair was more than just gawking at livestock while they gawked at us. There were demonstrations by the Sheriff (tazed a rookie for us!), winners of competitions, midway, food (only got a diet coke but gawked at the offerings), crafts, sales, static displays, and concerts. All the stuff that makes a local county fair – a local county fair.
We decided not to wait around two hours for the mud racing (in South that’s be racin’). I think Mike kinda regretted that but our day in the sun left us pleasantly tired and hungry. We stopped by one of our favorite Mexican restaurants to split our favorite burrito before heading home to watch movies and enjoy the lake breeze blowing through the house. All in all it was a fantastically relaxing day out.
First was a display of antique farm equipment.Where I come from snowmobiles aren’t consider farm equipment. Here with Wisconsin winters and the big dairy farms they certainly are farm equipment.Conceptual art – not sure what that is… but this got first place in it and I like it.In the Sheriff demonstration they tazed the rookie on the force. I have to laugh at his girlfriend there recording it. It sucks to be the rookie.Yeah Paul Ryan is our rep. I’m sick of politics. It’s getting worse here with all the ads, robo calls, and can’t get away even at the fair!Of course 4H had a large presence there. Come to think of it I didn’t see the FFA (Future Farmers of America) there!First Glimpse of the Midway complete with elephant ears. Mike’s fair weakness – funnel cakes or elephant ears. He refrained this time but the powdered sugar did call to him.What’s a fair without a produce competition? Mike was jealous of the blue ribbon jalapenos. Then we came home and he harvested for the gazpacho we made. He had jalapenos just as good!When I was a kid I wasn’t allowed to ride any carnie rides that took you off the ground. My father feared bad safety on this traveling contraptions. When I finally rode a Ferris Wheel I was disappointed – not as fun as it is pretty.I have to admit this cupcakes made me laugh. I could hear the Cookie Monster’s voice in my head.I enjoyed the photography exhibit. I found I’m very critical of my photography. I could compete on the county level. I’m not so inclined I enjoy doing it. Don’t mind selling a few for commercial use here and there. But not interested in competing.Now here’s a new one on me – presentation competition. Yep those table setting there were competing. Also here you can see the quilts displayed from the rafters where people can see them but not touch them.Lots of flower arrangements competing. Pretty flowers but some were past their prime.What’s a fair without a canning competition? These took the blue ribbon for spicy pickles. YUM! great with Wisconsin cheddar.Who knew that there were that many chainsaw carvers in the county?!?We exited behind the band. Neither of us is into country music so I can’t judge quality. However the lights gave them neat comic book like outlines of red, blue, and purple when viewed from behind.That was the fair for us. We put the top down and headed back to town by the lake. We passed the farms that were so well represented at the fair on our way to dinner.

Very interesting. This is the fair as I rememver it as a girl, We loved all the exxibits. Both my Grandmothers worked hard to have canned things to enter.
The grandmothers also made the dolies we used to put on tables and back and arms of chairs. They cross stitched on dainty hand towels.
Yes the County Fairs were the place to be seen.
It was a cute little county fair and I enjoyed the day. However I don’t think I’ll go back to it for several years. Just not my thing. Went to the state fair here once as a Modine picnic one year. Saw it and that’s enough for this lifetime.
I am very familiar with I am very familiar with tablescapes. They are always well represented at most of the garden club shows I have attended. I really like this exhibit when I see them as they are so imaginative.
The horticulture you pictured is displayed as most shows and this is what I always take to the show. I have been lucky and done well with my horticulture. I love seeing all the perfect plants and the not so perfect.
I am not into design, but enjoy seeing other who are so talented.
I think I went to the Greene County fair maybe 5 times while growing up. I couldn’t ride the rides, didn’t compete and didn’t really enjoy country music so didn’t find much there. Once I got into high school I did photography for the FFA of their animals and produce so went every year then.
I never took Home Ec or joined the FHA or anything like that so don’t know about those competitions. I found them interesting to see.
