Since I gave up comic books for other things, like space in my home, I get my fix in comic book movies.  I didn’t see Avengers 2, aka Ultron,  in theaters because of all the moaning about how badly it dissed Hawkeye.  I did see it in February on the cruise.  Deadpool I was anxious to see but came out in a busy time in my life so saw it via DVD. This summer with little to do when camping in an apartment and waiting on a house to move into we went to movies regularly – saw Civil War and Apocalypse in a theater.  Now I know those are two studios but for a comic book lover like me it’s one publisher Marvel.  Thus I’ll give my short thoughts on each in one post about Marvel’s Movies.  Warning SPOILERS ahead if you don’t want them for a particular movie skip to the next. I feel comfortable doing spoilers because it has been sometime since the movies were released and they were successes. Thus I feel those who care passionately about the story lines have already been exposed to the plots. (more…)

  • Monday Memories – 1908 Ship Postcard

    Postcard message side Postmark 1908

Hi, no I didn’t die. I have been dealing with a move, broken foot,  Mom’s broken leg, and connectivity issues in the country. Despite all of that I’m back and getting on schedule again.

Let’s do another postcard from the past. This one hails from 1908. There are few things I liked about this one. First, the amount of message the person squeezed onto this single card. Second, it was sent from Springs Tennessee to Corryton Tennessee but it has a cruise ship on it. Thirdly, there is writing on the face. Fourthly, it is responding to an apology which is intriguing. So all these neat quirky features along with the fact it’s over 100 years old made it one I added to my collection to share with you. (more…)

  • Freaky Friday – Intro

    Rat Race by me

If you have followed my on and off blog you know I’ve struggled to fill Fridays.  Finally I think I’ve hit on a topic that is going to stick. Freaky Stories.  I am a lover of strange stories.  True stories with no answer or stretch incredulity or just make you go ‘Hmmm’.  If you could look over my television recordings, podcast lists, audio books, library books, and so on you’d see my fascination with these. • Throwback Thursday – Thomas Fain Bright

    Bright, Thomas Fain - adjusted
My great grandfather Thomas Fain Bright

This is one of my paternal great grandfather. I have shared photos of all my great grandmothers so I thought it only fair to share my great-grandfathers. I meant to do it in June for Father’s Day but life planned otherwise. So I’m sharing this now.

His father fought for the Union in the Civil War.  His father-in-law who lived with Thomas for sometime fought for the Confederacay.  I found that interesting and wonder how the in-laws got along.  Thomas was a farmer and was killed in a farming accident when my grandfather was a young boy.  You can see Thomas’s wife Molly Rebecca McCravey Bright in this post.  This photo of him was made about 1895.

  • How I Broke My Foot and Got A 2 Inch Hole In My Roof

    Limb damage

Yesterday was a bad day.  Like all bad days it didn’t start out that way.  The morning had thunderstorms.  I like lying in bed listening to storms so I slept in some.  Then when I went out after the storm to run errands I noticed a HUGE limb on the roof.  I sent a picture to Mike and went on about my day.

  • Welcome to Sailor’s Rest, Established 2016

    26 Durret Rd 2016

Yesterday we closed on our house here in Tennessee.  (psst any one want to buy a house in Wisconsin?).  I am proud to say we are the new owners of Sailor’s Rest, established 2016.  Yes that’s the name we chose for this place.  It’s already starting to feel like home.  A few tweaks of painting here and there.  Then it’s figuring out where to tell the movers to put our furniture. THEN the work of making it a home, settling in decorating begins.

  • Tale of the Dog and the Landlord

    Dog in window

Let me start by saying our lovely landlord made an exception to allow us to be here with Miss Molly Dog. His general policy is no dogs but he was assured Molly is small and well behaved. Mike signed he’d be responsible for Molly’s behavior. So we got to be the first occupants of this lovely redone apartment that’s not an hour drive each way for Mike and out in the middle of no where for Mike. (more…)

Wow, what a learning curve today on internet offerings.  Trust me there are some places that it’s just not possible to get high speed internet.  But let me start at the beginning.

Okay I’m a true GRITS (Girls Raised In The South) but apparently I’ve lost my ear for Southern accents.  (Oh and yes plural they are varied from the mountain twang to the Lowlands drawl to the Louisiana who has at least 10 of their own).   (more…)
